RealSword - SVD Dragunov na revista SOLDIER

An Exclusive World Premiere: the first looks at the Real Sword SVD!

Our office just received a shipment in the form of a long box, and it certainly did not contain wooden sticks for our gardening hobby, which we were also expecting. The box in question revealed an airsoft version of the SVD (Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova), produced by Real Sword from Hong Kong.

We have been waiting for this release for some time now. In fact for over two decades there has been a “Dragunov-vacuum” in the airsoft market, and filling the vacuum has been attempted with spring-operated models, beautiful replicas with poor performance and reliability, as well as functional but aesthetically awful conversions based on electric AK models. The time of self-deception is over.

The receiver is forged and machined like the real thing for rigidity, and the outer barrel is also made of solid steel. The stock and handguard are plywood with a reddish laquer finish, and our package also included a prime quality replica PSO-1M2 scope. We can not stress enough how realistic this rifle is! The steel magazine holds 96 BBs.

Underneath the dust cover a rather long gearbox is revealed. As we recall from the Type 56 series, Real Sword altered the gearbox design to make it fit into a real-size AK receiver. In the case of the SVD, the extra length of the receiver is utilized to increase the piston stroke length. A cheek rest with a leather pad can be attached quickly for shooting with a scope.

A stick battery on top of the outer barrel within the handguard was able to crank a strong spring thanks to the high torque gear train and motor. A 0.2 g BB clocked at 145 m/s (475 fps) out of the box. A sub-1J version is directed for the Japanese market with an M90 spring included, but all other versions will be shipped with M130 springs like ours has.

We shall now continue the shooting tests to evaluate the performance more carefully, examine the mechanism through and through, and a detailed review will be found on the pages of Airsoft Soldier magazine shortly.

Well look what we have here! We didn’t quite manage to get the original true SVD within one day, but this 7,62 x 54R caliber Tigr is a very close relative rifle. We wouldn’t compliment the realism of an airsoft gun without comparing it thoroughly, would we? In addition, shooting real guns is great fun!
